Travel Guide
Hundreds of islands scattered across blue water, a lighthouse standing above rugged cliffs, quiet beaches and a bridge linking two island communities. Jodo is one of Jindo’s best destinations for travelers who want to see the scale of Korea’s southern archipelago.
An island surrounded
by islands
Jodo Island is the central travel base of the Jodo archipelago south of Jindo. The main travel area is formed by Hajodo and Sangjodo, two islands connected by Jodo Bridge, so once you arrive by ferry you can explore both sides by road.
The island’s signature viewpoint is Dorisan Observatory on Sangjodo. From the high ridge, countless islands appear scattered across the sea, creating one of the most memorable archipelago panoramas on Korea’s southwest coast.
On Hajodo, the historic Hajodo Lighthouse stands above a dramatic rocky coastline, while Sinjeon Beach offers a quieter contrast with sand, pine trees and a small fishing-village atmosphere.
How to Get to
Jodo Island
Jodo Island is reached by passenger ferry from Jindo Port to Changyu Port on Hajodo. Ferry schedules can change by date, weather and operating conditions, so confirm the latest sailing before departure.
Travel to Jindo Port
Head to Jindo Port on the southern side of Jindo. Arrive early enough for ticketing, parking and any vehicle-boarding procedures.
Take the Ferry to Changyu Port
Board the passenger ferry serving Jindo and Jodo. Some services may continue toward other islands such as Gwanmaedo, so check your destination before boarding.
Explore Hajodo and Sangjodo
After arriving at Changyu Port, explore Hajodo before crossing Jodo Bridge toward Sangjodo and Dorisan Observatory.
Jindo Port → Passenger Ferry → Changyu Port → Hajodo → Jodo Bridge → Sangjodo
Check both your outbound and return ferry
Jodo works well as a day trip, but the itinerary should be planned around the return sailing from Changyu Port. Check the latest schedule and vehicle-boarding conditions for your travel date.
Best Places to Visit
on Jodo
Jodo combines panoramic viewpoints, historic maritime landmarks, beaches and quiet island roads. The scenery changes constantly as you move between Hajodo and Sangjodo.
Dorisan Observatory
The highlight of a first trip to Jodo. Located on Sangjodo, the observatory looks out across the island-filled waters of Dadohae. On a clear day, distant islands seem to continue all the way to the horizon.

Standing at the edge of Hajodo, the white lighthouse has guided ships through these waters for more than a century. Cliffs, rocky coastline and open sea views make the area one of Jodo’s most dramatic stops.
View on Google Maps →Sinjeon Beach
A calm sandy beach on Hajodo backed by pine trees and a small fishing village. Its gentle shoreline makes it a relaxing stop between the island’s viewpoints.
View on Google Maps →Jodo Bridge
Jodo Bridge connects Hajodo and Sangjodo, allowing travelers to explore the two main islands as a single road trip. The surrounding channels and small islands add to the scenery along the drive.
View on Google Maps →Changyu Port
The main arrival point for many visitors to Jodo. Fishing boats, ferry traffic and the surrounding village give a first glimpse of daily island life before you begin exploring Hajodo.
View on Google Maps →Jodo Coastal Roads
One of the pleasures of Jodo is simply moving between villages and viewpoints. Narrow roads repeatedly open toward rocky shores, fishing villages and layers of small islands across the sea.

Recommended Course
For a first visit, combine Hajodo Lighthouse, Sinjeon Beach and Dorisan Observatory. Staying overnight gives you more time for coastal roads, sunset and a slower morning.
A good first route is Changyu Port → Hajodo Lighthouse → Sinjeon Beach → Jodo Bridge → Dorisan Observatory. Leave enough time to return to the port before your ferry.
Getting Around
Jodo
Jodo’s major attractions are spread between Hajodo and Sangjodo. A vehicle is the most convenient way to see the main sights in one trip.
Vehicle
Driving is the easiest way to connect Changyu Port, Hajodo Lighthouse, Sinjeon Beach and Dorisan Observatory.
If bringing your own vehicle, check the latest ferry boarding rules, capacity and reservation requirements.
Walking
Walking works well around the lighthouse, beach and observatory, but distances between major attractions are too long for most day-trip visitors to cover entirely on foot.
Comfortable shoes are useful for observatory paths, coastal sections and lighthouse walks.
Local Bus
Local bus services operate on Jodo, but frequency can be limited and schedules may be coordinated with ferry arrivals and departures.
If traveling without a vehicle, check the latest local transport information before building a tight day-trip itinerary.
Is Jodo
Right for You?
Jodo is especially rewarding for travelers who enjoy island panoramas, coastal drives and places that still feel far from the mainland.
Dorisan Observatory offers one of the finest views of the island-filled Dadohae coast.
Hajodo Lighthouse combines maritime history, cliffs and wide open-sea views.
Hajodo and Sangjodo are connected by bridge, making them ideal for a compact island drive.
Beaches, fishing villages and quiet coastal roads offer plenty of space away from crowded tourist areas.

Where one island
becomes a hundred
From the road, Jodo feels like a quiet pair of islands connected by a bridge. Reach Dorisan Observatory, however, and the scale of the archipelago suddenly appears.
Islands fill the horizon in every direction, while below them lie fishing villages, narrow channels and the roads you have just traveled.
A Jodo Island trip is one of the best ways to understand why this part of Korea is known for its extraordinary sea of islands.
