Travel Guide
A century-old lighthouse above dramatic cliffs, quiet sandy beaches, forested ridges and fishing villages facing a sea full of small islands. Hajodo is the natural starting point for exploring the Jodo archipelago south of Jindo.
Cliffs, beaches
and a lighthouse above the sea
Hajodo Island is one of the main islands of the Jodo archipelago south of Jindo. Most visitors arrive at Changyu Port, making Hajodo the first island they experience before continuing across Jodo Bridge toward Sangjodo.
The island’s best-known landmark is Hajodo Lighthouse, first established in 1909. Standing above steep coastal cliffs, the lighthouse looks across an important sea route filled with rocky islands and fishing boats.
Hajodo also offers a softer side. Sinjeon Beach combines a gentle sandy shore, pine trees and a quiet fishing village, while the more secluded Moraegae Beach keeps a wilder, less developed coastal atmosphere.
For travelers who enjoy walking, the island’s ridges add another dimension. Mountain trails and higher viewpoints reveal the scattered islands of the Jodo archipelago from above the sea.

A lighthouse island
at the edge of the archipelago
Hajodo feels most memorable where land suddenly meets the sea: at the lighthouse above the cliffs, on the quiet sand of Sinjeon Beach or along a ridge overlooking distant islands.
Between those landscapes are fishing villages, narrow roads and the everyday rhythm of an island community.
A Hajodo Island trip works just as well as a destination of its own as it does as the beginning of a wider journey through the Jodo archipelago.
