Travel Guide
Sandy beaches, tidal flats, forested peaks and a sea trail built along dramatic coastal cliffs. Connected to Yeongjongdo by bridge, Muuido is one of the easiest island escapes to reach from Incheon.
An island you can
drive straight into
Muuido Island is located south of Yeongjongdo in Incheon. Unlike many Korean islands that require a ferry, Muuido has been connected to the mainland road network through Muuido Bridge since 2019, making it especially convenient for a day trip from Incheon or Seoul.
The island is known for Hanagae Beach, broad tidal flats and a coastal boardwalk built beside rocky cliffs. Inland, Horyonggoksan and Guksabong add hiking routes with wide views over the surrounding West Sea.
At the southern end of Muuido, you can also walk across a pedestrian bridge to Somuuido, where the Muui Bada Nurigil trail circles the small island. This makes Muuido especially good for travelers who want beaches, hiking and coastal walking in a single trip.
How to Get to
Muuido Island
One of the biggest advantages of Muuido Island is that no ferry is required. Since Muuido Bridge opened in 2019, travelers can reach the island by road through Yeongjongdo.
Travel toward Yeongjongdo
From Seoul or central Incheon, first travel toward the Incheon International Airport and Yeongjongdo area. Muuido is located south of the airport island.
Cross Muuido Bridge
Continue south and cross Muuido Bridge directly onto the island. A ferry ticket is not needed to enter Muuido.
Beach, Hiking or Somuuido
Once on the island, choose whether your main focus will be Hanagae Beach, mountain hiking or the walking trail around Somuuido. Trying to do all three in a short half-day can make the trip feel rushed.
Choose your travel date → drive or take public transportation to Muuido → decide between beach, hiking and Somuuido → check tide and weather → plan parking and walking time → start your island route.
Muuido is connected by road
Muuido used to require a short ferry crossing, but the opening of Muuido Bridge in 2019 made direct vehicle access possible. This makes it one of the most accessible West Sea islands near Incheon.
Best Places to Visit
on Muuido
Muuido offers a mix of beaches, tidal flats, coastal boardwalks and mountain scenery. Add nearby Somuuido and you can easily build a full day or overnight itinerary.
Hanagae Beach
Hanagae Beach is the best-known beach on Muuido. At low tide, the water retreats to reveal a broad tidal flat, while the western-facing coast is also known for its sunset scenery.
View on Google Maps →Hanagae Coastal Boardwalk
From the southern end of Hanagae Beach, a coastal boardwalk follows the rocky shoreline. The route offers changing views of cliffs, tidal flats and open sea, making it one of Muuido’s most scenic walks.
View on Google Maps →Horyonggoksan Mountain
Horyonggoksan rises to about 245 meters above sea level. Most of the route is manageable for a casual hike, and the summit area offers views toward Hanagae Beach and the West Sea.
View on Google Maps →Silmi Beach
Silmi Beach lies on the northwestern side of Muuido. Its crescent-shaped sandy shore stretches for about 2 kilometers, backed by a dense grove of mature pine trees that provides plenty of shade.
View on Google Maps →Somuuido Island
Somuuido is a tiny island connected to southern Muuido by a pedestrian bridge. Cars do not continue onto the island, so the experience begins on foot from the bridge.
View on Google Maps →Muui Bada Nurigil
This walking trail circles Somuuido for roughly 2.5 kilometers. The loop connects coastal views, small beaches and forest paths and can generally be enjoyed as a relaxed walking course.

Muuido
1 Night 2 Days
With an overnight stay, you can separate Muuido’s beach and mountain scenery from the walking route around Somuuido, creating a much more relaxed trip.
For a first day trip, choose either Hanagae Beach + Coastal Boardwalk or Somuuido + Muui Bada Nurigil. Add Horyonggoksan only if you have enough time and want a more active itinerary.
Getting Around
Muuido
Muuido is more spread out than many of the smaller islands nearby. A car is convenient, but public transportation and walking can also be combined for a day trip.
Car
Driving is the easiest way to connect Hanagae Beach, Silmi Beach, hiking trailheads and southern Muuido.
Weekends and holiday periods can be busier around popular beaches, so allow extra time for parking.
Public Transportation
Muuido can also be reached by public transportation via the Incheon International Airport area. Check current local bus routes before traveling.
Bus schedules can change, so use current local transit information rather than relying on an old timetable.
Walking
Walking is essential once you reach Hanagae’s coastal trail, Horyonggoksan or Somuuido.
Somuuido is connected by a pedestrian bridge, so exploring it naturally becomes a walking trip.
Is Muuido
Right for You?
Muuido is especially good if you want the feeling of an island trip without having to coordinate your day around ferry departures.
Muuido Bridge makes the island especially convenient for travelers coming by car.
Hanagae and Silmi offer two different West Sea beach experiences, from broad tidal flats to pine-backed shoreline.
Horyonggoksan and Guksabong make it possible to combine island travel with mountain hiking.
The Hanagae sea trail and Somuuido’s Muui Bada Nurigil provide two very different coastal walks.
What to Check Before
Visiting Muuido
You do not need to check a ferry timetable, but tides, trail conditions and weekend traffic can still affect the trip.
Check the weather before hiking or walking the coast.
Check the tide if tidal-flat scenery is important to your visit.
For Hanagae’s coastal trail, wear comfortable walking shoes.
If visiting on a weekend, allow extra time for traffic and parking.
If using buses, confirm the current local timetable.
If adding Somuuido, allow enough time for the pedestrian bridge and walking loop.
No ferry needed.
Drive across Muuido Bridge.
Muuido is directly connected to Yeongjongdo by road. Choose your route around Hanagae Beach, the mountain trails and Somuuido, then travel at your own pace.

Cross a bridge,
then choose your island adventure
Muuido is one of those rare islands where the journey is simple but the scenery still feels distinctly separate from the nearby city.
Walk beside the tidal flats at Hanagae, follow a boardwalk over the sea, climb Horyonggoksan or continue south on foot to Somuuido.
For your Muuido Island trip, choose one or two experiences rather than trying to rush through everything. The island is close enough to visit easily, but varied enough to reward a slower day.
