01 / DISCOVER YEOSEODO

A remote island
protected by stone walls

Yeoseodo Island lies far south of Wando, between the Wando archipelago and Jeju. Its distance from the mainland and exposure to changing sea conditions have helped preserve the feeling of a genuinely remote Korean island.

What makes Yeoseodo especially distinctive is its traditional stone-wall village. High stone walls, in places rising to more than two meters, were built as part of island life in a landscape exposed to strong wind and harsh maritime conditions.

Beyond the village, Yeoseodo is surrounded by rocky coastlines and rich fishing grounds. It has long been known among sea anglers, while travelers who come simply to explore will find quiet lanes, coastal views and an atmosphere very different from Korea’s busier island destinations.

This is not an island for rushing through a checklist. Ferry connections are limited and weather can affect sailings, so Yeoseodo is best approached as a slow journey with enough time to adapt to island conditions.

01 / HOW TO GO

How to Get to
Yeoseodo Island

Yeoseodo Island is reached by passenger ferry from Wando. The route may call at other islands, including the Cheongsando area, before continuing to Yeoseodo. Sailing conditions can change, so always check the latest timetable shortly before your trip.

STEP 01 · WANDO PORT

Travel to Wando Port

Begin at Wando Port on the southern coast of Jeollanam-do. Allow extra time for ticketing and confirm the day’s sailing before boarding.

STEP 02 · FERRY

Take the Ferry toward Yeoseodo

Passenger ferries travel through the Wando island network before reaching Yeoseodo. The journey is part of the experience, passing through a remote stretch of Korea’s southern sea.

STEP 03 · YEOSEODO

Arrive at the Island Village

Once ashore, the compact village and its stone walls are the natural starting point for exploring Yeoseodo on foot.

YEOSEODO ACCESS ROUTE

Wando Port → Passenger Ferry → Intermediate Island Stops → Yeoseodo

FERRY · WANDO → YEOSEODO

Build your trip around the ferry, not the other way around

Yeoseodo lies far offshore, and weather can affect ferry operations more than on many nearby islands. Confirm both your outbound and return sailings and avoid planning a tight onward connection on the mainland.

02 / PLACES TO SEE

What to See
on Yeoseodo

Yeoseodo’s appeal comes from its stone-wall village, rugged coastline and unusually remote island atmosphere rather than a long list of developed attractions.

01 / STONE WALL VILLAGE

Yeoseodo Stone Walls

The traditional stone walls are Yeoseodo’s defining sight. Built high to withstand the island environment, they form narrow village lanes and preserve a distinctive landscape rarely seen elsewhere in Korea.

Much of Yeoseodo is surrounded by a rugged rocky coast exposed to the open sea. The contrast between dark rocks, blue water and distant horizons gives the island a wilder character.

06 / BEFORE YOU GO

What to Check Before
Visiting Yeoseodo

Yeoseodo is more weather-dependent than many easier-to-reach islands, so preparation matters.

Confirm the latest Wando–Yeoseodo ferry schedule for your exact travel date.

Check the return sailing before beginning your island walk.

Pay close attention to wind, waves and weather warnings because sailings can be affected.

Consider an overnight stay rather than building an overly tight itinerary.

Bring comfortable shoes, water and basic supplies for walking around the island.

Keep enough flexibility in your mainland schedule in case ferry operations change.

Where the stone walls
tell the story of island life

Yeoseodo does not reveal itself through large attractions or busy sightseeing routes. Its character is found in the walls, the village lanes and the sea surrounding everything.

The farther you travel from the mainland, the slower the rhythm becomes. Here, ferry schedules and weather still have the power to shape the day.

A Yeoseodo Island trip is best for travelers who are willing to accept that slower pace and experience one of Wando’s more remote island communities on its own terms.
