Travel Guide
Wide farming fields, low mountain ridges, centuries-old trees and a strong tradition of folk culture. Jangsando is an unusual Korean island where rural landscapes and historical heritage are just as important as the surrounding sea.
An island that feels
like countryside by the sea
Jangsando Island lies in Sinan County off Korea’s southwest coast. Although surrounded by the sea, much of the island is characterized by broad agricultural fields, villages and low mountains, creating a landscape that feels surprisingly rural.
Jangsando has also preserved a rich collection of cultural heritage. The traditional Jangsando Field Song developed from the rhythms of communal farm work, while the Dochang-ri old tree grove and ancient stone-chamber tomb reveal much older layers of the island’s history.
In recent years, the island’s White Garden has added another reason to visit. Seasonal Shasta daisies in spring and pampas grass in autumn bring a completely different atmosphere to Jangsando’s quiet agricultural landscape.
How to Get to
Jangsando Island
Jangsando Island is still separated from the road-connected islands of northern Sinan by sea. One practical route is to travel by road to Anjwa Island and take a ferry from Jara Port to Bukgang Port on Jangsando. Ferry services are also available through the Mokpo island network.
Travel toward Anjwa Island
From the mainland, the road network through the Sinan islands allows travelers to continue toward Anjwa Island. This can reduce the amount of time spent at sea compared with starting the entire journey by ferry.
Go to Jara Port
Jara Port on Anjwa Island is one of the key ferry gateways for Jangsando. Confirm the sailing for Bukgang Port before arriving at the terminal.
Take the Ferry to Bukgang Port
Board the ferry to Jangsando and arrive at Bukgang Port. Sailing schedules may change according to season and marine conditions, so always check current information.
Mainland → Anjwa Island → Jara Port → Ferry → Bukgang Port → Jangsando
Check both outbound and return sailings first
Jangsando’s main attractions are spread across the island, so your return ferry should be fixed before planning the rest of the day. Also check whether vehicle boarding is available for your chosen sailing.

Getting Around
Jangsando
Jangsando is larger than a compact walking island, and its main attractions are spread across several villages. Plan your transportation before arriving.
Vehicle
A vehicle is the most practical way to connect Bukgang Port, Dochang-ri, the White Garden and other areas of the island.
If bringing a car onto the island, check vehicle boarding availability, reservation requirements and current fares before departure.
Walking
Walking works well around individual attractions, village centers and shorter mountain or garden sections.
Distances between different parts of Jangsando can be considerable, so walking alone is not ideal for covering the entire island in one day.
Passenger Ferry
Ferry service connects Jangsando with the surrounding Sinan island network. Jara Port on Anjwa is an important gateway to Bukgang Port.

An island where the fields
tell as many stories as the sea
Jangsando feels different from islands defined by beaches and cliffs. Much of its character comes from farmland, villages and low mountains stretching across the interior.
Walk among seasonal flowers, visit centuries-old trees and ancient remains, then discover the folk songs born from generations of agricultural life.
A Jangsando Island trip is best enjoyed slowly. Give yourself time to notice how farming, history, folk culture and island landscapes have come together in this quiet corner of Sinan.
