A quiet island
shaped like a deer

Nokdo Island lies about 25 km off the coast of Boryeong in Korea’s West Sea. Its Korean name comes from the word for deer, as the island’s shape is said to resemble a deer lying down.

Nokdo is best known as a traditional fishing village island. Fishing boats, compact hillside homes and the working harbor create a very different atmosphere from Korea’s larger resort islands.

The coastline combines small beaches, rocky sections and open sea views. Rather than rushing between major attractions, Nokdo is best enjoyed by walking through the village, following the coast and spending time beside the water.

BAENGNYEONGDO ISLAND · WEST SEA

Travel farther west,
and slow down when you arrive

Nokdo is memorable not because it offers an endless checklist of attractions, but because each part of the island feels distinct—vertical cliffs at Dumujin, the wide open shore of Sagot and the smooth pebbles of Kongdol Beach.

Give yourself two or three nights, plan your transportation before you arrive and keep the return journey flexible. Once the ferry is booked, the rest of your Nokdo travel itinerary can unfold at the slower pace this remote island deserves.

A fishing village
far out in the West Sea

Nokdo is not an island built around major tourist attractions. Its appeal comes from the harbor, village and sea remaining closely connected.

Walk uphill through the village, follow the coastline and stop wherever the sea opens into a wider view.

For your Nokdo Island trip, keep the itinerary simple and leave enough time to enjoy the slower rhythm of island life.
